The Most Romantic Valentines Day in History
(At least, the way I see it!)
When I was 18 and attending Ricks College in Idaho, Kevin was 20 and
in El Paso, Texas. Though separated for nearly 9 months without seeing
each other, our correspondencing through letters found us madly in love!
Well, naturally, we were both flat broke, being in that transitional
stage between high school and real life! I was existing on Idaho potatoes
and noodles and Kevin was surviving on P.B. and J.! And as Valentines
Day approached in 1984, I knew that my Valentine to Kevin would need
to be simple and inexpensive.
So, I penned a letter lovingly written inside a romantic greeting card
and expressing my eternal, boundless and enduring love for him. I thought
it quite appropriate and touching.
Kevin, however, had been planning ahead, knowing that extravagant Valentines
Day gifts were beyond his financial means. So, for an entire month preceding
Valentines Day, once a week he heroically trekked down to the
local blood donor facility and donated plasma, squirreling away the
money to use for his Valentines Day plan.
Valentines Day morning, I opened my dormitory door to find the
FTD® man standing before me with a beautiful Valentines Day
bouquet of lovely spring flowers
paid for, literally, with Kevins
own blood. (Okay, plasma.) I couldnt have imagined
a more romantic gesture! And I couldnt have imagined a more perfect
hero
than my own, Kevin.
